How should an extruder be selected when extruding sheet (plate) materials?

Extruders used for extruding plates and sheets can be single-screw or twin-screw extruders. Common single-screw extruders are mainly used for the molding of thermoplastics such as HDPE, LDPE, and PP, while vented single-screw extruders are mainly used for the molding of plastics such as PS, PMMA, and PC. When using a single-screw extruder, the diameter of the screw is generally between 65 and 200 mm, the length-to-diameter ratio of the screw is greater than 20, and a filter screen should be installed at the head of the screw.
The twin-screw extruder is mainly used for the direct extrusion molding of PVC powder. Generally, parallel twin-screw or conical twin-screw extruders can be adopted. When a parallel twin-screw extruder is selected, the screw diameter is usually 80 to 140 mm, and the length-to-diameter ratio is less than 21. For a conical twin-screw extruder, the diameter of the small end of the screw is 35 to 80 mm.
