How should a worn barrel be repaired?

The barrel surface of an extruder is relatively hard during the extrusion process and generally wears slower than the screw. However, after prolonged use or continuous processing of highly filled or glass fiber-reinforced materials, significant wear can still occur, eventually leading to loss of service life.
 When wear occurs on the barrel, several repair methods are available: 
(1)Typically, the metering section of the barrel wears faster; this section (5–7D in length) can be reamed and then fitted with a carburized alloy steel liner. The inner diameter of the liner should match the screw diameter, leaving a normal clearance for proper fit and machining; 
(2)The inner diameter of the barrel can be machined and then re-cast with an alloy layer 1–2 mm thick, followed by precision finishing to achieve the required dimensions; 
(3) In cases of severe wear, if the barrel's inner wall still retains a certain nitrided layer, the inner bore can be directly reamed and ground to a new diameter, after which a new screw matching this diameter can be installed.
